Steuben County is located in southwestern New York state. Steuben County has a total area of approximately 1404 square miles of which 99% is land and 1% water. As of the census of 2000, there were 98,726 people, 39,071 households, and 26,216 families residing in the Steuben County, New York. It is in the southwestern part of the state, immediately north of the Pennsylvania border. The county's name is in honor of Baron von Steuben, German general who fought on the American side in the American Revolutionary War.
